The Drawbacks of Opening Up the Constitution
Errol Louis: In order to get rid of monarchy, we would need to open up our Constitution. He says it's a Pandora's box; you don't know what is going to come out of it once you open up that box. The Western provinces basically wanted to take back almost all the powers over mining, forestry, other forms of resources, et cetera., he says.Louis: I'm not sure that most Canadians fully understand why we're actually doing this because much of the role of the monarch in Canada is purely ceremonial.
