Markdown is a kind of simplified HTML, which lets you approach writing in quite a structured way. You can see it's a text with a different outline levels in different colors, kind of bullet points. Another thing that's quite nice about it is, so this is Microsoft's own page here. And they actually sell these in some cases so that you can further customize the interface and make it your own.
