Gaslighting is the psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time. Often that's an interpersonal kind of gas lighting when you're being sort of tricked by a partner or family member, colleague or a boss. But that sense has broadened into I think the sense that we encounter more frequently or even most frequently today which is simply the actor practice of grossly misleading someone especially for one's own advantage.
It’s sooo 2016, but the word still mattered a lot in 2022. Merriam-Webster explains.
