Eve Ensler: We still live in a world where for many people, there is a danger of their state controlling attempting to step in and control their access to being able to continue a wanted pregnancy. And so I think when we talk about technologies like the artificial womb, as you say, we kind of need to move away from this assumption that it's inevitably a technology that could just add benefits to our society," she says. "We also really need to look at the ways that in our existing society, in the absence of this technology, people are not given sufficient access"
As technology continues to advance, the once distant concept of growing a human fetus outside the womb is inching closer to reality. But with these advancements come myriad ethical, legal, and social questions that challenge our understanding of parenthood, abortion rights, and even personhood.
