The Tenants of Maoism
A woman named Gu Hong Sheng who was on her own with three children and she was refused absence of work to take one of her children a 5 year old to the hospital. The journey there and back took ten days, a period in which the 5 year old had died despite arriving at the hospital. When she returned, she realised that her two remaining children had been ignored by the rest of the villagers - a kind of reprisal led by the cadre for disobeying their orders. In these examples, we see the interplay of the state, the policies they are enacting, the political energy that members of the party are harnessing to met out punishments on behalf of the party
