The First 40s to 1970s: A Period of Relative Stability for Development Understandings

During this Keynesian modernization welfare, 1940s to 1970s, development was seen as to be directed by the state. From 1980 more or less to 1997, the Washington consensus period saw a great turn away from the idea that the state was to be the key means to organize society and promote development. And instead, what we see emerging is the neoliberal era under which with the promotion that there was a moral and economic priority of individuals and markets over society and over the state. It was quite disastrous in a way for a good portion of the world.
