How the Media System Has Harmed Black Folks

In 2020, there were a lot of conversations happening at Free Press about the future of the media system. We knew that we needed to have an accounting of how the media system has harmed black folks from the earliest colonial newspapers until now. If there is not a different economic model for news and information, one that is grounded in our understanding of the ways that harm has taken place, then all of that work will not be able to take root.
