The Nature of Addiction
Cognitive scientists John Raveki describes the nature of actual addiction as the process of reciprocal narrowing. And it's very structurally similar to the printing of money, like you print a little bit of money to try and fix the economic problem. You cannot fix an economic problem with printing money because all you're doing is shifting. It's not creating any new wealth. If I create new pieces of paper called dollars, I haven't created any new factories, equipment, knowledge. I haven't satisfied any human wants. So it's just theft. You can't solve problems by stealing. And it’s an addiction, right?
