The Salem Witch Trials
Governor Fipps pardoned every last person, still imprisoned on charges of witchcraft. This brought about a proper end to the Salem witch trials. The reputations of the Puritans took a massive beating in the wake of these trials. They were exposed for the zealous, violent and cruel oppressors that they were. It took 329 years for Elizabeth Johnson's conviction to be officially overturned. She became the very last so-called witch to have her name cleared once and for all.
