The Talking Cure, It's at the Heart of the Psychoanalyst and the Couch
After about ten years as a neuro pathologist, studying the brain, freud took a trip to paris to work with a man named charcot. Charcot was interested in what were then called hysterics, people who suf ed from symptoms like paralyzed limbs that could be traced not to nerves, but mental states. What stuck with him from this 19 weeks sojourn in paris was a new set of beliefs that psychological disorders might come from the mind rather than the brain. He returned to vienna, got married a few months later, and began a new phase in his career. Freud observed that in america, girls and boys were taught together n a co educational system.
