I read recently the notion that intuition is really pattern recognition and that intuition is called over years of being able to understand possible outcomes. When you sense that something might go a certain way it's really just reaching back into the way that you recognize patterns from your past. The most interesting part of it is that the so-called rational mind is really there to confirm what we intuit. We're excellent at finding evidence for what we decide we want to believe and sort of wrapping that around that soft core.
