Afghanistan is a very poor country. The urban areas like cobble, the capital, that's extraordinarily different from the rural areas of afghanistan. It's also a country where in these rural areas, people aren't used to having a central government dictate or help them in their day to day life. And yet, when the united states tried this nation building project to set up a government in afghanistan, this was something that i think we really didn't take into account,. This lack of historical ties, or even understanding of what a government, a central government, did - right?

Unlike the wars in Vietnam and Iraq, the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 had near-unanimous public support. At first, the goals were straightforward and clear: to defeat al-Qaeda and prevent a repeat of 9/11.
