The Doctoral Ideal of Education
Gymnasts were those who could handle the human organism out of what they considered divine order and activity in the cosmos. Gymnasts knew how to handle the soul only to the degree that it manifested physically in the body. The orator was concerned with the soul and attained a crown and glory as the speaker of soul matters. Finally, in more modern times, just as materialism was arising in civilization, it was the professors who educated children.
