critical ecology would say, let's start from the premise of this island was colonized for the express purpose of producing a certain quantity of sugar rit. So there is this component this variable of free labor, and that land use goes hand in hand with it. And so i want ta start to get ecologists and other environmental scientists to to think about that when they go in and make a plan to understand a change landscape or a seascape,. depending on where you work.

How do societal structures affect the planet? Why should we get to know our neighbors? What’s the ecological price we pay for … stuff? Yep, there’s an -ology for that. We chat with the founder of Critical Ecology: biogeochemist, National Geographic Explorer, researcher and plant nerd, Dr. Suzanne Pierre. Dr. Pierre’s Critical Ecology Lab is involved with research on the biomes of former plantations, air pollution, agricultural runoff, and even asking questions about wildfire science and the prison system.
