The Dead Slave Is Released From His Debt

An appendix in the second edition to the Old Testament or slavery looks at all of the battery laws from all of the ancient Near Eastern law collections, including those of the Hebrew Bible. It compares them not only amongst themselves and their individual collections but how do they rank type of battery that can be inflicted upon someone? And so I think what's happening here is that the dead slave is being abused and suffers significant damage and is therefore released from his debt.
