Nintendo's Approach to Backwards Compatibility

I would love backwards compatibility, but I can see the perspective of other developers not wanting that because they'd want to sell more. As an economical practice, which you guys talked about, I could totally see them wanting to not backwards compatible the whole thing. But right now I don't think there is a clear answer on the topic and at best everyone can speculate whether or not there will or will not be.
