The Relationship Between Regulations and Trucks
Australian regulations limit trucks to a width of 2.5 metres. But European trucks are allowed to be 2.55 metres wide and U.S. trucks can be 2.6 metreswide. The effect is therefore that Australian operators can't easily buy world-class technology, says the Gratton Institute's report. Marianne asks: What happens to existing roads and tunnels if you open the market to wider trucks? And what benefits could we see if we implemented these reforms? Well, in a nutshell, Kat, we would get cleaner, greener, safer trucks.
