Football Clubs Are Using Data in a More Efficient Way
Football had access to a lot of numbers, but very little understanding of what they meant. It was assumed that if you covered more ground in a game, that probably meant you were working harder. And it was only about 10 years ago that we all worked out that maybe it just meant the other team had the ball. If you're a physicist, you will probably see the world through the prism of numbers in some way. I think there's no surprise that those people came to understand football and kind of wanted to understand the way that they want to operate.
