Ing polics claim that we have a long way to go. Of all the people shot and killed in a given year by american police officers, at least 25 % of them had a serious mental illness. People with mental illness are significantly over represented in our jails and prisons. Some states and many cities are confronting this problem directly. They've started crisis response teams to deal with people in mental or emotional distress as an alternative to calling nine one one. I think we owe an organization that fights in justtice.
