If you want to create a product that brings people together, ask yourself why it's important. What motivates them is probably in the space of what's called belonging. So if i know that this person wants to feel like they belong, that's their core desire. You have to help people discover similarities and common beliefs. And how can you help people who are using that ap easily understand those norms?
