Why Do Frogs Overwinter in Mud?

Michael wants to know why frogs bury themselves in mud over the winter. "Some frogs will actually overwinter and this relates to one of your other questions some frogs will actually go under the ice" They have anaphries in the cells that make up their body and it keeps the cells from freezing but there's water between the cells so they'll feel hard frozen like a frog sickle.
