90% of adoptions in japan are 25 to 35 year old adults. Why do they do that? They say, we're a family firm. It's maritocratic nepotism. In other words, if i really want someone beloved to me to take over freconomics radio eventually, and i know that my kids are not interested, i should probably consider adopting someone like duckworth.
How does the profitability of family firms stack up against the rest? Has nepotism become more taboo over time? And why are 90 percent of adoptees in Japan not children but adults?
