Ahazuerus in the Persian Period
Ahaz uerus ruled a vast empire stretching from india, or what would be modern day pacistan, to ethiopia at its extremities. The precise identity of this figure is debated and scholars identify him with xerxes. James jordan has argued that darius, the persian king who reigned from five 22 to four 86 b c, was a different figure from rius the mede. Antony thomasino says Jordan's position depends on an argument for which little support exists.
