The Importance of Emotional Commitment
The reason that we are concerned about anything at all is because we're finite beings, right? That we have to make a goal of it, right? And so implicit in all of our sortings is the fact that we are under a kind of pressure because time is ultimately short. What would it be like for you to make sense of the world if you weren't mortal? How would you decide ultimately what's going to matter? Unless there was some limitation to all this. There was some pressure that you were under to get it right because you've got a finite amount of time to do this.
