Tarkin in Rogue One

I thought for Rogue One to work, it did have to have several connections with New Hope. And I thought having a few different threads worked. The rivalry between him and Ben Mendelssohn's character wasn't particularly necessary or interesting - but having him there was good because it also made his death seem more significant. When you think about it in New Hope, especially if you're a kid watching, he's just bit of a boring old man. But now when you see what he's done before and his association with the Death Star and all that, like it does imbue that with a bit more meaning in a way that worked for me.
