The Sojourner and the Native Under the Same Law
The half israelite's father was an egyptian, not an israelite. His going out in the midst of the people might refer to his attempt to find a place among the people of his mother, the tribe of dan. Enjoyment of a heritage within israel pended upon the father's line of descent. The lord underlines the equitable treatment with which the sojourner should be treated.
