The term magic is very useful as a first order term in many contexts, but it's really problematic as a second order term. The Greek term Magos with its particular set of associations denotes a male figure in Greek and also as Magos in Latin. So if we want to use the term magic to cover a wider range of activities than those which are termed Magai in ancient Greek and Magia in Latin, maybe including the ladies when we talk about magic, then we need to realize that the terms Magia, Magia and Magic do not map onto each other exactly.
