Is There a Time and Place for Asynchronous Meetings?

Every Monday, we have a meeting called state of the business where for the first 15 minutes, we are all sitting there reading a Google Doc together. And I think it's because if that update was purely just read this doc, yeah, there wouldn't be as many useful discussions coming from it.
