The Deep State Conspiracy Theory
I'm not a big believer in the sort of deep state conspiracy theory kind of thing. What's happening behind the curtains? They're extracting oil from the those countries or they're just there. Is there corruption involved in it? Yes. Will they lobby for certain wars so that, you know, existing stocks of bombs will be depleted and you'll get new contracts and things? Yes. But is there some level of naive, stupid ideology that we need to give the word freedom and democracy)? That's a very dangerous kind of ideology, but it's also there. You really can't assign a value to how much each of these things play.
