The stamp act crisis in 17 65 was often driven by political divisions unique to each colony. The flames were fanned by a long standing rivalry between lieutenant governor thomas hutchinson and the onegan offagan political alliance of erratic attorney james otis junior and soon to be professional agitator, samuel adams. So when official news of the stamp act hit, along with the news that the hated hutchson's brother in law, andrew oliver had been named stamp distributor, the bargening populace machine went to work.
