Gift economies are systems of exchange in which goods and services circulate without explicit expectations of direct compensation. In a gift economy, wealth is understood as having enough to share; the practice for dealing with abundance is to give it away. A gift economy nurtures community bonds, which enhance mutual well-being. The economic unit is we, rather than I, as all flourishing is mutual.
