Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris

Last Tango in Paris was the most profitable film United Artists had released to that point. At early screenings of the X-rated picture, there were bomb threats, walkouts, and even reports of vomiting. When they actually shot the scene in which Brando's paw uses cold butter as a lubricant, Maria Schneider performed without previous knowledge of what was going on. Bertolucci intentionally didn't tell her any details because he wanted her to react like a girl would react to that surprise.
