The Life Of Zeno The Prophet

The Daily Stoic

CHAPTER

Zeno's Journey to Athens

Zeno was a Phoenician shipwrecked in Athens. His father had brought home many books for his son including those about Socrates. Zeno consulted an oracle about what he should do to live the best life. The oracles response to him was that you should have conversation with the dead. He heard Socrates's teachings as they had been conducted in this bookshop. It must have struck him there in that bookstore Possibly the same one his father had shopped in years before it as he listened to the words of Socrates read aloud and brought to life his ideas.
