Immanuel and the Numbers of Kings in Second Kings
Chronology of Second Kings is like a jigsaw puzzle with many pieces missing. There are uncertainties about the duration of co-regencies that makes it challenging to construct a coherent picture. In Isaiah he represents the hope of the house of David and the inverse of his wicked father Aahaz. Immanuel, God with us, is a name that fits the historical figure of Hezekiah very well. The story of Israel and Judah's kings is as commentators both conservative or liberal, almost universally recognised.
