In the book, it's far future. You can, you know, make make new human make new people. And a just kind of kept them permanently in a sort of mental and emotional crippled state,. where they were always childlike and always relyant on her. The greater good here really is great enough to justify just about any atrocity. But yes, i want to say, it's only evil if they're not enjoying their lives.
