The Consumer Protection Act of 1973 established the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations. As children, we tore through white boxes with black text that read Cornflakes Cereal. For quick lunches, we would put commodity cheese on tortillas or bread. The flavors we savored in childhood became a detriment to our health.
