Mordecai and the Book of Esther
Mordicai has a reasonable claim to be the main character of the book, rather than esther. The most natural reading of the text is that mordecai himself was carried away from jerusalem with the captives who were jecaniah. Mordecai is bringing up his first n esther. Esther has two names, hedase, meaning myrtle, or esther, which might come from the babylonian goddess ishtar and may relate to the word for star.
