Pig Butchering in Crypto Scams

The term comes from the practice of fattening up a pig before it slaughtered. The victim is seemingly befriended by someone maybe on a forum like Reddit and their new friend patiently earns their trust through text messages. Forbes just wrote up one particularly heartbreaking case in which the victim and the perpetrator swapped 270,000 words of text over the course of the scam.
