I think it's also the fascination with just rich people sometimes like this is often feels like different worlds or something you don't quite belong to. And I think especially in America those buildings are mostly the oldest buildings that you have. It's basically just an old, usually somewhat kept building because if you have a normal family home those weren't last as long and most were made of clay and wood. So even in ruins they outlast the common people.
