Is the Lightning Network Energy Efficient?

The lightning network is a way more efficient way of transacting than just Bitcoin to Bitcoin. There's no energy required to keep the computer on, but there's no proof of work that's required to send that payment. Lightning kind of like going to be the new Visa MasterCard? Is that kind of what we're thinking exactly what it is? Yeah, it will it will replace Visa and MasterCard.
