The Transformation of the Oracle of Delphi
Garrett: Delphi, as we know it, really comes into being in 490 BC. There's this great stone temple, the Temple of Apollo, which is a centerpiece of everything. After the Persian wars, so Delphi seems to have hedged its bets during the Persian wars. The Persians with their massive, you know, half-million man army came awfully close to Delphi. And so, the Oracle seems to have seen that what was blowing and suggested to Greeks who consulted the Oracle, that they might want to consider conciliating the Persians.
