The Mountain Curse
The land that Griffith Park sits on was gifted to one of the Anza's soldiers in 1787. A descendant of Jose Vicente Feliz, who developed and ranched the land, had her family swindled out of the property by a grifter named Antonio Guarnao. Betrania Feliz became angry and placed a curse on anyone that would own it. In 1896, Griffith J. Griffith donated the cursed land to the city of Los Angeles. To this day, many hikers and park visitors swear they've encountered ghosts of those who died in the park late at night.
