The Legend of Poseidon
Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea. The Greeks called him the earth shaker or the holder of the earth and also the god of horses, so Poseidon hippios. One of my favorite mythological creatures in ancient art is the Hippocamp - a creature that has the body of a horse in the front and then sort of a fishy tail,. almost a snakey fishy tail in the back. And this is a creature that is absolutely perfect for Poseidon. In fact, we see him sometimes riding on a Hippopotamus as well.
