The Story of the Real Book
Students wanted to fix aesthetic problems with the old fake books and make something that was nice to look at and easy to read. One of the two guys had a gorgeous music hand, the way he formed his quarter notes and his safe notesando that was lovely and rolling in in the book. Among other things, he did all the actual penmanship its one gy ropintir book. He notated all of the music by hand in this very distinctive and expressive script. The students took it to local photo copying shops where they cranked out hundreds of copies for $20 each.
