The Disinheritance of Kitty and Jose
When Kitty discovered that Jose was having several affairs, it drove her further into a state of deep depression. Eric told his brother that their father was sexually abusing him and had been doing so for a long time. The boys began to understand the magnitude of the secrets they were keeping in their family. It seems logical that Kitty and Jose would use the disinheritance as a weapon to keep the boys in line.
