Holmes and Watson are in Saxe-Koburg Square, where the pawnbroker has his shop. They investigate a bank on the other side of the street which is home to several shops including a bank. There they find an underground cellar containing £30,000 worth of French gold. Because all this money is in there, there's a danger that someone might try to steal it. Holmes: 'Within an hour matters will come to a head.'"
