Introduction

The Romans had a spectacular number of slaves. They captured them in their hundreds of thousands after victories. Aristotle thought slavery was a natural state. poorer romans took comfort that no matter how bad their lot might be, at least they weren't slaves. Some romans also gave these supposedly inferior people the greatest response lities.
