The Tax on Legal Cannabis Is Crazy
Amber Centre is the founder of Supernova Women, an organization which helps to create opportunities for black and Latino women in the legal cannabis industry. She says high tax on legal weed is one of the reasons why there is still a huge and thriving illegal market. California gets about a billion dollars a year in tax from the cannabis industry. And a proportion is dedicated towards child care and youth projects. Other states are trying to replicate the programme by learning lessons from California. But they say there's only so much they can do while cannabis remains illegal in the eyes of the federal government.
