The Distraction of Class

The gender gap that we see in education is much, much bigger at the bottom of the socioeconomic level than at the top. And they're way bigger for black boys and girls and black men and women than for any other race including Hispanic Latino. It's not just a class store, it's a race story, but increasingly also gender. The categories are still useful, so long as we don't forget to look at them through other lenses as well.
