The Gitogovinda, or Song of the Lord
The gitogovinda is a twelfth century devotional poem from the north indian courts of the sena kings. The genesis of the poem can be contrasted with that of the esenheim altar piece, matius. Grunewalt appears to have had an unhappy experience of romantic love with a wife who was eventually institutionalized on account of what doctors judge to be demonic possession. As the monks of saint anthony were renowned hospitallers, particularly famed for their care of plague victims and unglamorous commitment to hard work.
